  • lol a bit hyporcital after what those protestants say about our "mary idol worship"

  • @johnross12 Emersing yourself in a religious delusion may make you feel good but it doesn't make one mentally healthy - in the same way that taking cocoaine makes you feel good but it is not healthy. The point of psychology is to help people live without crutches, whether they be drugs, religion or ideology. We give psychology esteem today because it is proven to help people live a fully life. Renunciation of self is a foul concept - why would you renounce yourself, renounce yourself to who?

  • Following Christ requires humility, which is something secular psychology eschews. If secular psychology is so effective, why is our society as dysfunctional and egocentric as it is?

Orthodox Christianity requires a renunciation of self -- something that if taken to heart is far more effective than the ramblings of psychiatrists.

  • I will add that I never said every answer every dogma and truth is meaningless either. There are many "truths" on which the Church has changed its stance by the evolution of time and knowledge. That doesn't make the church initially faulty for not originally coming to the right conclusion. It makes the church a living institution--one that ever grows by following what Christ is calling us to do at any given time.

  • I could not disagree more. There are many times when I interpret the Scriptures and tradition through the eyes of the "Love God and Love your neighbor" mentality, I am overcome with guilt. Interpreting through the two commandments Christ commanded, though a simplistic route to theological answers, can sometimes render answers often hard to follow.

You are typical of the modernist liberal mentality. Every dogma and Truth is rendered meaningless by the "God is love - Love one another" mandate, which is used by people like yourself. Truth is not interpreted Privately by us - the interpretation rests with the Authority of Christ and those He gave that authority to. People like you believe what pleases you at the time, and when others hold what was always Truth; they are biased bigots.

  • Truth is not relative. But the way we interpret dogma/scripture is through our eyes of culture, socio-economic status, knowledge, etc. It is indeed difficult to love as Christ commanded, if one is not willing to take a step outside one's own preconceptions and biases

  • @gabelawr32

If your comment is directed at my reponse, then it is clearly ridiculous. Truth is not subjective.

  • Typical. Not willing to see anything beyond your own, and text-proofing.

Yes, Christ eradicated the "unnecessary", but Dogmas are truths revealed by God, and therefore can never be considered superflous, or rejected in any way.

Christ sent the Apostles to bring the Gospel to all nations:

Matthew 28:20 - "Teaching them to OBSERVE ALL THINGS whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world."

He did not say just teach them the necessary parts - as if some where not so.
