Late 1980s film clip. I love this band. They formed in Brisbane, Australia in 1983 before moving to Sydney a couple of years later. This terrific song is off a mini album called "Sleepless".
I`m not sure if it`s exactly the same line-up or not but the band members as listed on their great 1988 Mushroom Records release "Underneath The Watchful Eye" is as follows:
Trevor O`Neil - keyboards, vocals
Darren Atkinson - drums, vocals, noises
Peter Shaw - guitar, keyboards
Greg Atkinson - bass guitar, vocals, angst
John Flade - electric guitar
Difficult to find their music now.
bigwhiskers5 has uploaded clips for "Lit By The Fuse" (both a live version plus an alternate studio version), "Moments Away" both from the aforementioned "Underneath The Watchful Eye" as well as a great cover of Neil Diamond`s "Solitary Man" from the "Sleepless" mini-LP. Check `em out. They`re all great songs.

  • @Symph0 Fantastic news! Thanks for the heads up!

  • There is no substitute for great songwritng. This is simply a beautiful pop song. Gorgeous guitar. Great singing. I have an album on vinyl called "Sleepless". It's the only thing I've ever found by them. Shame.

  • It is special isn`t it! The Ups and Downs recorded an album "Underneath The Watchful Eye" which included the killer tracks 'Lit by the fuse' and 'moments away' both of which hopefully are still available on YouTube. The brothers (Greg and Darren Atkinson) went on to make more great music with the band "Big Heavy Stuff" so search for that band also if you enjoy the Ups and Downs.

Check out the "more info" section of this page.

  • A great song guys. Pete from GALLEY SLAVES.

  • Ah. Memories. Lost count of how many times I saw these guys live back in the 80's. And you can't beat paternal harmonies. My favorite is still song of theirs is still "Where is the Sun?".

  • Byron Bay Brewery , with Huxton Creepers and the Re-Mains , Sat 12 Nov 2011 ..can't wait ..

  • Just found the 'old' vinyl Sleepless and loving it again... oh... the days of the old Sydney Cove Tavern and when great live music was in the pubs and venues every weekend.
