In the 1953-'54 season, New York's WRCA-TV {WNBC after 1960} presented a nightly 40 minute "STEVE ALLEN SHOW" [11:20pm-12am(nyt)], sponsored by Ruppert's "Knickerbocker" Beer. This was the template for Allen's version of "THE TONIGHT SHOW", which was telecast nationally on NBC, beginning on September 27, 1954.
