  • Father, love your work. Look into the Church Fathers that puts Christmas on Dec 25th because Christ died on March 25th and they believed a person was conceived on the same day they died. The East believed it was April 6th, creating a twelve day discrepancy that lead to the twelve days of Christmas.

  • @mariemarie1980 As a pagan I don't consider it stealing. I believe the sacredness of this time of year transcends religion. We're all celebrating the light breaking forth from the darkness, as such the practices will naturally blend

  • Take the predominant pagan holiday; the yearly worshiping of the sun, declare it to be the holiday for the birth of your lord. That is going out and finding how other nations of people worshiped their gods and then doing likewise. You may claim that it is not a violation of that passage of Deuteronomy, but it really does go against the meaning of the words.

Rewriting song lyrics as a part of worship would be a violation as well, if that is how the use of song entered services.

  • This isn't a pagan ritual per se, nor is it syncretism...there were elements of pagan practice which were compatible.

Many popular hymns we sing today have melodies which were orignally part of pagan practice, but this doesn't mean that the melody is evil...they are given new meaning through Christian lyrics.

    and so it goes...

  • Deuteronomy 12:30 however says that this must not be done: "that thou enquire not after their [the pagan] gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise."

The Bible is thus tremendously clear that pagan rituals should not be incorporated into Christian ritual ... and thus, a celebration of Christmas becomes an affront to the lord and a tremendously unwise thing to do from a theological perspective.

  • Many Catholics do know this. It's not some dark secret, most Pagans were converting to the faith, and so the Church incorporated rituals which were compatible with the faith, instead of forcing new ways onto the pagans. This is why Catholicism is known as a 'universal' faith.

Just as most Catholics need to learn about pagan elements...most pagans need to know that this wasn't 'stealing'. This is the difference between being non-judgmental and syncretism (otherwise called 'stealing paganism').

  • wow he actually knows the whole truth. so why dont most catholics know this?

  • As a Franciscan I don't need a special day to worship God. Every day is special. Do not confine Him within imperfect human parameters.

"Christs birth is always happening. And yet if it doesnt happen in me, how can it help me? Everything depends on that."

    Meister Eckhart (1260-1327)

  • mapollo, NO, I'm NOT SDA. I follow Scripture and what our LORD and Savior Celebrated as HE Taught and Fulfilled. It amazes me how in even this video the catholics are 'proud' to admit how christmas was ment to replace a roman holiday that celebrates the sun god and simply 'christianizes' it. how sacriligious is that. His birthday is more than likely on Sukkot. Seek and you will find.

What "box" will you put me in now?

  • Are you praying to Ellen White or to God?
