I was there that night. The crowd was pretty dead for the most part, and this ending was no exception. People didn't really care all that much. Probably the best crowd reaction of the night was when Awesome Kong did that somersault spot.

@z0biC Half of the wrestlers you mentioned are true. Cena debuted against Angle and lost. The Hardys were jobbers for years before they got their break. RVD initially feuded with Jeff Hardy when he first came over full time. Jericho lost his debut match by dq. Benoit lost to HHH in his debut. Albeit he didn't lose Goldberg faced The Rock. Some of your arguments make sense but its not always the case.
