Pinza e Siepi sono il mio basso

@BassoCantante19 Pinza performed Osmin in Europe before coming to America but not onstage in the US. The high G was in the opera Louise where Pinza sang the Father's role in Milan Italy.

@ChrisStockslager Oh OK.

@BassoCantante19 I don't think the high G story was for this opera. Pinza never performed Osmin onstage.

@ChrisStockslager Where does Osmin have a high G?

@odnoforpb Actually this is the 1946 recording w/Bruno Walter, as I have this record in my collection. It's all wonderful, especially this rather difficult aria requiring great vocal ability.

This might not be the version Pinza recorded in 1946 with Bruno Walter conducting. This recording may well date from the late twenties or the thirties. Regardless, Pinza shows fine command of the deep stuff and a wonderful sound throughout this very demandind aria.

i would love to hear vladmir miller sing this

@ChrisStockslager I don't think so. Pinza was singing under Arturo Toscanini, that brilliant and hard taskmaster, at La Scala in Milan Italy before he came to the US. He recounts how Toscanini wanted him to sing the optional high G for that role and he came up with his "best one" during the performances very well, but he didn't do it in the rehearsal. I gather Toscanini was quite pleased and It's an amusing story about the whole thing. What a terrific range he had in his prime, and even later.

@thephantom1946 Is there a copy of him singing the high G anywhere? I'd LOVE to hear it!!!
Quite hard aria for a bass, one of hardest in opera-history for basses, I think!

Really? I mean, he was probably incredibly close to the microphone, but this is essentially the cleanest I've heard the note on here so far. The color of his voice is incredible, and I love this aria in Italian. :)
