Since it was established in 1967, GS Caltex (Chairman: Hur Dong Soo) representing Korean energy industry, has diversified energy business and secured competitiveness in every segment of energy industry including city gas, oil exploration, new• renewable energy based on continuous growth mainly driven by oil and petrochemical business. We are able to bear successful fruits, as we are second to none in terms of accumulated trust and profitability in energy industry. Armed with the management goal of "Bridge to the future", GS Caltex will facilitate green growth to secure world-best competitiveness and profitability despite uncertain condition of management, invest more in No.4 HOU (Heavy Oil Upgrading) to create new source of profit, and enable new business to contribute to Profit Growth.

Especially, to actively respond to the government policy "Low Carbon, Green Growth" and devise new growth engine, GS Caltex set the business of new/renewable energy as a growth engine of future generation. On this context, GS Caltex makes proactive investment in the fields such as 'secondary cell' and 'waste to energy' for their research and development and commercialization.

GS Caltex performs the business of 'Waste to Energy' to achieve environment-friendly energy and renewable energy, which means we can run after and catch two hares. In April 2010, GS Caltex made inroads into the field of 'Waste to Energy' in full swing, taking over GS Platech, a company based on the technology not only to treat waste using plasma, but also to convert syngas (from waste treating process) to energy. The biggest strength of GS Platech's technology is that gas created from the process of treating wastes is high-efficient enough to be recovered and reduces the emission of pollutants like dioxin less than 1/10. In 2008, GS Platech constructed the first daily waste gasification melting facilities in Cheong song-gun, obtaining both certificate and verification on environmental new technology from the Ministry of Environment. Besides, in August 2011, with support from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, it completed the world first power generation facilities (now conducting test operation) that use hydrogen fuel cells based on high-purity hydrogen refined from daily waste.

In addition, GS Caltex rolled up its sleeve to enter the environment-friendly recycling business. Samil Polymer, a subsidiary company of GS Caltex, shows off top-notch technology of manufacturing plastic as well as provides its products to electronic and automotive leaders at home and abroad. It is considered as the company with high growth potential. By utilizing the technology and know-how owned by Samil Polymer, GS Caltex plans to manufacture recycled products and build a systematic recovery system with a view to expanding its business to the environment-friendly segment such as resource-recycling.

After acquiring GS Ecometal, GS Caltex recently built a plant to recover rare metals by recycling wasted catalysts used by oil refineries and petrochemical factories and succeeded in first production.
