Rough version of a new original song. Yes, I know I used too much rubato in the second half. The middle instrumental part is a work in progress. As an exercise, I tried to use only white keys, forcing me to develop new voicings. Feedback welcome.
Lyrics:
Feeling more like myself
than I have all year,
alone with a man I've known
just a handful of hours.
He says his boyfriend won't mind
just as long as he's still out of town.
He says they have an understanding.
He seems real good at having understandings.
He's got an easy smile,
that looks like it took some time to earn
like it was the only thing left standing.
He acts like I'm in on a joke
that nobody ever says out loud;
Sometimes I think I know the ending,
and it's okay, as long as there's an ending.
He sees people as functions
and functions as old friends
and it's alright to fall in love, he says,
'cause it hasn't stopped him yet, no, no,
No it hasn't stopped him.
And maybe it's true that I only
save some room
for those that aren't planning on staying.
Though he may not have changed
my life this time,
I think it's enough to keep me going.
I guess it's time, we should be going.
And our only choice is
to be broke or broken 'cause
hope is expensive at this time of year.
But that hasn't stopped me yet, no, no,
No it hasn't stopped me.
Coons in 720p! way to go, man
