Here I am, accessing the data stored in my implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). I am having my device "interrogated" by a fellow student at the Arrhythmia Technologies Institute in South Carolina.
Today, ICD and pacemaker patients are not allowed access to their own devices and have NO ACCESS to the data collected by the manufacturer via remote monitoring. Believe it or not.
So, this was a momentous occasion. The first time—ever—accessing my heart's data on my own.
Now, just imagine being able to see all the data collected by your ICD or pacemaker in one place (Web or mobile), including all arrhythmic events, peak and average heart rates, your activity levels, sleep patterns, device integrity information, charge times, and even the estimated date for device replacement?
Augment the above with other personal health data, such as blood pressure, weight, BMI, glucose levels, and you'd have a clear picture of your health. Add the ability to share it with other patients and we're on to something big here.
How much longer will we have to wait for this to become a reality?
Very cool!
