How cool would it be if they made a movie version of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."? One of the many spy series to hit TV screens in the '60s after the success of James Bond "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." was an instant success. I discovered the show in reruns as a kid when I stayed home from school. I've recently started watching "NCIS" and the whole time I kept thinking that Ducky sure did look familiar. Then I realized it was non other than Illya Kuryakin himself, actor David McCallum. Today was a boring rainy day so I decided it would be fun to recreate the opening titles of the show as they might look if it were made into a feature film now. George Clooney would make a great Napoleon Solo (played by Robert Vaughn in the TV series), and I can easily picture Bill Nighy in the role of U.N.C.L.E. Head Alexander Waverly. But who could play Kuryakin? I used Orlando Bloom's name as a place holder. McCallum is Scottish, so I suppose it would only make sense to cast another Brit in the role of the Russian spy. This was a fun video project that serves no real purpose. It was just a good way for me to kill a few rainy hours today. Hope you enjoy.

  • I love what you've done with it. It would be really cool if you could stylize the logo and put on the map you've designed. All I've thought about was YOUR interpretation of the opening. very good. I wish I was directing it. I know who to ask to help develop a nice sequence. If I may ask, were there a bit of a nod to Saul Bass in this?

  • @SamKarns Without a doubt I had Saul Bass and Maurice Bender somewhere in the back of my mind while editing this. I would probably have made it a bit longer, but I liked the energy of the music at that last moment and thought it was a perfect closer. At that moment it would be cool to iris out onto a location shot of some exotic city with an icon telling us where we were and that it was the 1960s. Lets just hope that it a TMFU movie gets made its not crap.

  • Okay, I'm a 40+ year old fan boy, but this gave me good little shivers. Who's playing the theme?

  • @CalpurniusRex

The track is called "Television Theme Medley" and it is from the album "Jerry Goldsmith: 40 Years of Film Music." It's available for download on iTunes. It was the boldest sounding version of the theme I could find and I think it worked great. If they were to make a movie version of "U.N.C.L.E." I think that Michael Giancchino ("The Incredibles", "M:I 3")would do a fantastic job of filling the late Jerry Goldsmith's shoes.

Thanks for checking out my video!

  • bloody hell those opening credits are so professional id invest my own money into making this movie happen.......

    an absolute corking effort.

  • Just goes to show that cheap editing software and a little enginuity can go a long way. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • I liked what you have but I might have cast Geoffrey Rush as Mr Waverly or possibly Ewan McGregor as Illya Kuryakin

  • is there an actress who played bat girl on the show

  • I'm leery of a MFU movie. Recently, I've been somewhat disappointed by recent incarnations of 1960s TV shows. I grew up in the 60s and those shows bring back great memories. I don't like seeing these upstart moviemakers taking those gems and thinking that they are improving them any. Star Trek '09, SyFy's Battlestar Galactica and Wild Wild West are just a few examples. I say leave the old shows alone and come with something original.

  • This doesn't do The Man from UNCLE justice. Clooney would suck as Napoleon Solo. That pretty boy, Orlando Bloom would absolutely suck as Ilya Kuryakin, not to mention he'll be washed up by the time he reaches the age David McCallum was in 2003. Anyone who replies saying David McCallum is washed up is an idiot, David McCallum plays Ducky on NCIS, Orlando Bloom doesn't have that kind of skill.

  • Very cool. Thanks for posting. Re a new movie, it could only work if they recreate the Vaughn / McCallum chemistry.

  • this was great thank you
