the 2nd world Conference on Arts Education

The 2010 World Conference on Arts Educations hosted by UNESCO and the Korean government will be held in Seoul for four days from May 25 to 28, 2010.

When it was decided at the 34th UNESCO General Conference, held in October 2007, that Korea was to host the 2010 World Conference on Arts Education, the Korean government began to prepare for the event with the cooperation of UNESCO. The purpose of this event is to improve and strengthen the value of arts education for people in the 21st Century. The importance and value of arts education were already discussed at the 1st conference held in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2006, through a discourse on the Road Map for Arts Education. Now is the time to focus on the actual implementation of the road map. Likewise, this conference will focus on the social, cultural and economic aspects of arts education while presenting new concepts and research methods through the reinforcement of the research and analysis of various case studies.

We hope that this conference will set a precedent for effective, close cooperation among governmental institutions, autonomous regional entities, teachers, artists, researchers, associations and NGO organizations so as to increase the importance of arts education in schools and society.

We hope that this conference will increase the general publics awareness about the role of arts education. The target audience is all of humankind, all nations and communities and the message of the conference is one of peace through cultural diversity leading to the arts education of today and tomorrow being re-born as a more effective and creative venue.
