@ten8goa It all depends on the type of music you're playing.I've seen some killer soloing while the band is also grooving in the back ground.

I disagree with this theory.Bebop,straight-ahead jazz etc requires each member to solo.Listen to Gary Willis,Scott Lafaro.It all depends on the genre and what the music requires.
