In Athens, Ohio, students in the Ohio University Duello Fencing Club are learning a little about swordplay. But their style is anything but playful. These students are learning historically accurate combat and they practice fencing as a martial art.

  • @elwiemo OK sure if your gonna be that much of a bitch about it ,sure

  • @TheBufftanner It's playing with swords. It's not "anything" fencing.

  • @elwiemo it's DUELLO fencing not olympic fencing

  • @TheBufftanner First of all, Mr ad hominum, there shouldn't be a sword in your off hand. Against a real fencer, you wouldn't even get close enough to use the 2nd weapon. Regardless of the hand they're using, however, they're not holding the weapon properly - they're holding it like a club. The pommel should be against your wrist.

  • @elwiemo they are supposed to hold their sword in the off hand dipshit

  • These guys aren't even holding the sword correctly!

Fighting styles EVOLVE! Smaller and lighter weapons (like in Olympic fencing) replaced the stuff these guys pretend to be using. An MMA fighter could probably take out a medieval warrior even without a sword.

  • Sadly it is not clear what is said at 0:26, but it is clear that the speaker must be joking at 1:26.

    Sincerely,

The Ohio University Fencing Club (Olympic to our friends)
