@LogosTheos as a 70 something year old professor/former army surgeon told me, the doctors just make the diagnosis... the surgeons and nurses are the ones really running the show.

@Laborde2005 again... i don't know what type nursing program you are in, but ours was a living hell.....very strict and very stressful......
-
@Laborde2005 i was way ahead of time and doing great....at the im injection i was nervous and verbally explaining everything because after the first fail i did not want to miss anything...i'm explaining and locating ...the vastus lateralis....between the greater tronchanter ect.. ect... then as im giving the ejection i explain what types of allergic reactions to look out for...finished i sat down to document i remebered then and told the instructor too late i FAILED the entire semester
-
@Laborde2005 the skills can be anything! the timer starts and your off...the skills require a FULL verbal explanation as you go and FULL documention when you are done....i got nervous my first try and did not state out loud the 5 rules of medication administration (tramp-.remember time -route-amount-medication-perso
n) FAIL! 2nd time i got easy skills mixed meds with math on iv pigy back, post pardom assessment, and im injection-again mixed meds with math -
@Laborde2005 i don't know what nursing program you are in, but in mine you had 5 areas to pass each semester.....1grade-2clinical(
miss 2 clinicals you fail automatically)-3math comp-4 lab-5 skills test. at the end of the semester you have 2 trys to pass skills-you are given 30 minutes...you walk in with 2 other students...pick up your skills sheet( 3 sheets upside down on a table-each student picks one.).....there you will find 3 skills that you have to perform in a set time -
I quit working and threw away what little social life I had to prepare for nursing school. Next semester starts my senior year, Im stoked. But I need A's and more importantly to be able to grasp and understand everything Im learning. How do u make A's, geez the tests are so unpredictable. U can study and obtain all the knowledge in the world and still make a B or C on exams

@imnotsmartbutimtryin I seriously doubt this....I failed to aspirate, on a real patient in clinicals, and my teacher just reminded me and everything kept going as planned. It's a learning environment...It's you chance to make mistakes and learn from them. If you failed nursing school because of failure to aspirate one IM injection, theres a serious problem.

I feel like nursing school is simply learning how to take a test... All their tests are silly... based on non-clear vague meanings of certain words. Not a fan -- I still don't see how their testing reflects anything applicable to life as a nurse.

@afrow911, "Nursing school is the HARDEST thing you will ever do."
Actually it isn't, try medical school...

@RedMustangRN You are spot on! Nursing school is hard because of the abusive nursing instructors and weak-minded students alike. Lets not forget about the silly trick tests!

Hmm so I suppose joining quidditch while doing nursing isn't the smartest thing to do. Heh. :/
