  • you'll need to explain why the chinbar not opening without the visor being open is a great safety feature ????

  • @gubbedagain it means when in a crash, there is no chance of chin bar popping open by accident. assuming when you are riding the bike, you have the visor down. the flip helmets typically don't rate as safe as full face with the consumers, because a hard hit to a specific part of a chin bar may cause it to open. Hence a good idea on Shark's part to add this safety feature.

  • @beemerkay No sorry complete nonsense, there is no way that the visor being down is going to stop the force of an impact from dislodging the chin bar and if you think it is then I'm amazed. I'm not trying to flame you but you are being completely unrealistic.

I have one of these series 2 helmets and I do really like it but I know it's weaknesses, there is no way that the visor is stopping the chin bar from opening in an impact, none whatsoever, so it's no safety feature at all.

  • @gubbedagain No, it's not complete nonsense. You're overreacting. And frankly making a big deal out of it. It's just a simple safety feature. A normal flip helmet will open whether the visor is down or up. The Evo will flip up only if the visor is up. That's a safety feature. What you think has zero relevance to this design feature.

  • @gubbedagain hello do you think I should get a full face or a flip? I like the flip style but not if it opens and i smash my chin when I fall

  • @GBJ83 most flips are safe, but a full face is safer. if you really want a flip helmet, then stick with the top brands, otherwise get a full face so you don't have to worry about safety issues. last thing you want is to be uncomfortable or worry while on the bike. cheers, S

  • I think this visor feature is more to prevent people to easily open the chin bar while riding then to make it more safety.

  • According to sharp.direct.gov.uk, this helmet remained fully locked 70% of tests. That can include the chin bar issue (however i don't expect too much case).

The 70% is not that good comparing to normal flip-flops (those did ~80-85% average), but the final result is 4 starts, out of 5. Which is good.

I own one Evo, and very happy with it. I got extra comfort with good safety. The comfort is real strength. Anyways, most of the expensive, very high rated helmets have 4 stars.

  • They don't make this helmet for people with Charlie Brown sized heads.

  • I am no DOT or Snell helmet safety inspector, but i would consider it a "safety feature" (considering the term is not used in a physical sense) if u'r looking at it from the perspective I believe he is. To me it seems as though it's just preventing something dumb from happening such as the "red button" being pressed against ur zipper, a little wind catching hold, and ur head whipped back. I believe they put similar features in cars to prevent doors from unlocking automatically while in motion?

  • I have to agree with that other guy here, it's not a safety feature it's just something they decided to do. In the event of a crash, the impact will either flip the chinbar or it will not. Visor up or down simply has nothing to do with it. Considering buying this helmet.

  • @GBJ83 Hi there, sorry for the late reply. Decision only you can make I'm afraid, the down side to flips is there is that risk with the chinbar, even this one no matter what the know-it-all says.

I love the helmet and I'm willing to run the risk, but that's my decision, sorry I know it doesn't answer your question.

  • @beemerkay I'm not overreacting to anything, you're heralding this as a safety feature for your little video, IT'S NOT, simple fact. To say otherwise is misinforming people. I own one of the series 2 versions so I DO know what I'm talking about.

It's not a safety feature an impact will open the chinbar regardless of whether the visor is open or closed. It will also flip if the visor is anywhere other than locked, NOT JUST UP. Try learning about the product, it'll help you immensely !
