This is an awesome idea but I would get rid of that power thieving V-belt and use a bicycle chain or gears. A chain wont slip if it gets wet either.

@dstroni I was under the impression it supplied alternating current and converted it to dc using a diode. Isn't that why cars use dc even though alternators supply AC?

No...Alternators are AC. The current is transformed into DC! An alternator gets its name from the term alternating current (AC). :)
