Foothills Connect and the Full Belly Project are working on a gravity pump to help farmers irrigate crops and provide water for cattle with a non-electric low-cost gravity pump. The pump was created by the Full Belly Project and is being tested at the Kudzu Kow Farm in Rutherford County, NC. The weight of the water filling the arms of the pump causes the arm to tilt like a see-saw, causing two pistons to move up to 800 gallons of water a day uphill using no other energy than the kinetic energy of the water, itself."
Some additional numbers would be helpful. How much water has to flow into it to pump a gallon of water uphill? How far uphill does it pump?
Some answers to non-quantitative questions would be nice, too. Do those numbers vary if the rate of flow into the pump varies? Is it possible to adjust it to pump farther uphill? How about a greater volume of water not so far uphill?
