ALEX FERGUSON has blasted Manchester City for sacking Mark Hughes.

Hughes was axed after last Saturday's 4-3 win over Sunderland and immediately replaced by Roberto Mancini.

City chief executive Garry Cook has since attempted to defend the club's actions but Ferguson is not impressed. The Manchester United boss said: "It was unacceptable behaviour".

"It doesn't matter whether you have lost 20 games or two, there is a way to treat people.

"For some reason Christmas seems to bring out the worst in directors.

"I do not know how you can do something like that.

"From Saturday morning the rumour mill was working and Mark must have realised it was his last game. It was a terrible position to be in."

Ferguson also praised Sunderland boss Steve Bruce for backing Hughes immediately after his side's defeat at Eastlands.

The Scot said: "In the game of football you have disputes with managers from time to time.

"But what Steve did was defend an old team-mate. That great Manchester United team of 1994, which they both played in, stood by each other.

"Their loyalty to each other was fantastic — that team would fight the devil together.

"It was as if Steve was saying, 'That is my team-mate you are talking about'.

"I was really proud of him. I thought he did fantastic and Mark really appreciated it.

"He sees that kind of loyalty, which he didn't get from City from one of his old team-mates."

  • Man... Same guy got both the highest rated comment. I wish i was up there

  • Yes he may be the most succesful manager in history, but if you have a problem with another club you dont rant about it on camera. Whenever utd lose he alway blames someone but himself. Has he ever thought that his time may be up for managing utd and to give his position up?

  • @akukamulaen English please. Typical Manure fan, you're all mugheads! Rooney as your leader doesn't surprise me. He's an uneducated unprofessional hair-receding wife-cheating Shrek-looking twat!

  • @slyarsenal yeah i hope van persie left arsenal for man city while wenger die with city's money in hands. he loves it aite? =)

  • Arrogant gum chewing cow! (spit). History was yesterday. Today they're shite and now Fergie is thinking about retirement. Hope the prick dies in a Man City shirt!

Since the owners came Mark hughes spent £272m and if they carried on the same points per game when hughes got sacked they would have finished with 65 points. In the 21 games after mancini spent big money and managed to get to a total of 67 points.

Man utd could spent another £300m and still could afford to buy another hernandez and still our net spend would be less then man city in the last 20 years. We could pay rooney £750k a week and our wage bill would be less.

SAF may not have won the Champions league as many times as he would have liked but man utd hold more records then most i.e. longest home winning run away run and unbeaten run. Put it this way if SAF had beaten Barcelona in 09 and 11 he would have had 4 champions league wins and 3 in 4 years undefeated.

Man utd top the UEFA Coefficients for last 5 years and got more prize money and points then Barcelona despite losing as we won nearly every game home and away in last years CL.

  • anybody can buy results, the most luckiest, but the worst loser, everytime he loses its somebody elses fault FO Fergie

  • He was only annoyed at the sacking because he knew Mark Hughes wasn't capable of winning the league for City, Alex your full of shit and always will be, let's say Mark Hughes won the league with City and made them a real force in Europe would he praise him? Fuck no
