When it comes to a golf swing, I try to get my students to understand what the golf club needs to be doing. It controls what happens to the golf ball and since it only takes about 4 to 5 seconds to make a golf swing, you need to understand how it starts back.
Many golfers start the club back with the bending of their wrists. When you do this the club usually moves too much to the inside and below your swing plane. Your back, chest and shoulders need to turn FIRST in the back swing. A great drill to feel this is to place a board behind your club and push the board straight back. Done correctly the board will still be in line with your target line. Done incorrectly the board will be pointing to the right of your target line. The board helps you start your swing with your back, chest and shoulders and your club head will lag behind at the start of your swing putting your club on the correct plane.
Fantastic instruction... this is the exact fault I had

this is an awesome tip...for years i couldnt create lag because of tension in my swing...a good friend gave me this exact tip and boy it instantly changed my game across the board.....you dont create lag i found it just happens when you start with no tension...who cares about positions at the top when your takeaway is on plane... i hit a 6 iron 205 today....now thats lag.....PW 150 on command now thats lag....dont do it every time but if you need it....it is easily accessible
