Wonderful upload. There's so little of Ian's temperament, skill, kidney and genuine independence of thought in the United States. This man is not a hack.

@1978deus Yup, there is now way of measuring ignorance. That's what made your assertion that the Americans are more ignorant than the British so ridiculous.
If i took the guys comment wrong he can easily let me know himself. I suppose you thought you'd better answer for him as you're better qualified to. Since you're British and he's just an American simpleton.
-
@StevieWondersWhy24 As I said, there's no accurate way of measuring it. I was only taking issue with YOUR unfounded claim that this guy has an anti-American attitude. For all you know he could have been comparing media figures in both countries as opposed to the general public. But that possibility obviously didn't occur to you because your irrelevant rant about Piers Morgan was more important.

Anybody thinks he sounds like rowan atkinson sometimes ? i do :))

@1978deus Your getting confused i'm afraid. You isolated creationist Christians as a 'good place to start' to explain your silly, unfounded theory that there are more ignorant Americans per capita than there are Brits. I simply used Muslims to show that Britain has a huge number of religious people with beliefs about creation too. YOU used the religious as a gauge for ignorance, so i went with it.
If you're gonna reply, please read my comments properly. You're getting tedious. No offence.
-
@StevieWondersWhy24 My assumptions are no different from yours. There is no official method of measuring ignorance. Don't know why you've decided to isolate the number of Muslims. Assuming those figures are correct (source?), what does that prove? All you've have done is tell me how many Muslims live in both countries.
-
@1978deus To ASSUME that there is more ignorant Americans than Brits per capita suggests that you're ignorant i'm afraid. If you want to use the religious as a gauge for ignorance just bear in mind that there is about 2.5 million Muslims in a British population of 65 million, and 2.5 million Muslims in an American population of 315 million. And the Muslims have some dubious beliefs about creation themselves.
-
@StevieWondersWhy24 Have you lived in America? Do you really know what it's like? Your ignorant assumption that Piers Morgan got his talk show just because he's British suggests you know fuck all. Per capita, Americans most likely are more ignorant than the British. The percentage of people who believe in creationism is a good place to start. As I said before, making an observation about your own country is not self-hating OR an example of an "American idiot" attitude.
-
@1978deus Please explain how I'm being anti-American? He implied that there is more ignorance in America than there is in Britain. I personally think that's a huge pile of bullshit. I simply can't stand that self-hating 'American idiot' attitude. And he clearly has that attitude.
-
@StevieWondersWhy24 Nowhere did he state that his praise for Hislop was solely based on the fact that he is British. Are people now not allowed to voice criticism of their own country without being accused of being a traitor? There is nothing anti-American OR blindly pro-British about his comment. If anything, you are the one who is being anti-American.
No, many satirists are liberal. Most good satire is liberal at the core. His good satire is liberal too, Ian Hislop's. About the economy, about the illegal wars.

@derdriui I see what he means about it being reactionary, but I think the idea that satire is basically conservative and pro-status-quo is something you would never hear in America at least, even from a conservative-ish satirist. Conservatives here like to cast themselves as fighting some kind of revolution... if only by constantly talking about how everyone else in their profession is more liberal/lefty than they are.
