Big band and jazz purists may be aghast, but the fact is that this 1983 recording by the then touring Glenn Miller Orchestra led by Larry O'Brien has become a significant recording in its own right. Aside from being the first attempt to re-record Glenn Miller's original music using modern technology, it was also one of the first albums (In A Digital Mood) ever released on compact disc in the United States. "A String Of Pearls" was composed by Jerry Gray and originally went to #1 in 1941 for Glenn Miller & His Orchestra.

  • love that sexy foot

  • Great bass line

  • Dad was a WW II United Staes Army Veteran. Growing up (Dad died in 1975 I was twenty) he, as many, didn't have it very easy in his life - but I recall vividly the joy it gave me to see his great smile and his foot go to tap-in when ever his favorite tune "String of Perals" would come on the radio or a dance at the American Lgion Post in Bridgeport Ohio. With Veterans Day just passing I must say "Thanks for the Memories"!...... Yes, he was a hell-of-of guy....!

  • I've heard this song so many times and every note and every beat is etched in my head.

  • Me encanta!

  • One of my favorites. Can't get it enough. The beat is awesome & the solos are truly amazing.Even better in Digital.

  • When this vinyl LP came out in South Africa in about 1984, I must have been the very first person to buy one. I still have it and although it has been played to death, my Linn Sondek LP12 turntable has kept it in good nick.

The bass line on this particular version of "String of Pearls" is one of the most smooth I have ever heard. The guy playing it sounds like he is just going on and on and on and on and he is never going to stop. Just the BEST version of this song I have EVER heard.

  • I love this recording. I found it great that the band still kept the original arrangements that Glenn used back in the 40's.

  • Wonderful Big Band tune! Thanks!
