"Holy Is Your Name"

(Canticle of Mary or Song of Mary) aka The Magnificat

based on the Gospel of Luke 1:46-55

Melody: Wild Mountain Thyme
Arranged by: David Haas

St. Thomas More Catholic Church
Fairfield, NJ
http://www.stmchurch.net/

Archdiocese of Newark, NJ

During Eucharistic Adoration Holy Hour
Join us Monday Nights 7PM (except during the summer)

Cantor: Maral Najarian
Accompanied by Music Director: Rita Maggio

During a holy hour prayer service, lights are usually dim and the church is illuminated by candles, hence the darkness.

Here are the lyrics based on scripture:
***********************************

Verse #1:
My soul is filled with joy
as I sing to God my savior:
you have looked upon your servant,
you have visited your people.

Refrain:
And holy is your name
through all generations!
Everlasting is your mercy
to the people you have chosen,
and holy is your name.

Verse #2:
I am lowly as a child,
but I know from this day forward
that my name will be remembered,
for all will call me blessed.

Verse #3:
I proclaim the power of God,
you do marvels for your servants;
though you scatter the proud-hearted
and destroy the might of princes.

Verse #4:
To the hungry you give food,
send the rich away empty.
In your mercy you are mindful
of the people you have chosen.

Verse #5:
In your love you now fulfill
what you promised to your people.
I will praise you, Lord, my savior,
everlasting is your mercy.

  • Very beautiful praise and worship music! Especially during the hour of Euchariastic Adoration. Blessing to you all for posting this and blessings to all who listen to it!

  • Thank You Changefortanzania! May God abundantly Bless you also with many of His treasures of Graces!

  • This is one of the few Haas arrangements I truly appreciate. it is simply elegant. You do it well. Thank you for putting it on YouTube!

  • You're welcome....the microphone made a little too much echo-ing sound, it actually sounds better if you hear it in the next room- a distance from your speaks! LOL!

glad you enjoyed it...& God Bless U!

  • It sounds nice. You are right about all the ipod/cell phone stuff. We were singing a beautiful Palestrnia Kyrie on Holy Thursday evening....and someone left their cell phone on....

You have a lovely voice for solo liturgical work....so rich sounding.

My Episcopal Parish leans more in the catholic tradition, so something like that in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament would work nicely.

  • I'm glad you agree Socwoods. God speaks in the silence of our hearts, and if we aren't silent, how can we hear him?!

Glad you enjoyed the video....our Chant Choir also sung a Palestrina piece....they don't work well with cell phones...no, no!

God Bless and keep singing for the Lord!

  • You sing this beautifully.

  • It is pretty Our lady of good Counsel sing it the whole school i seen itit is veary pretty!!!

  • Haven't heard this song since I was about 11 years old, attending Mass with my mother. And I still remember it two decades later!

  • The Magnificat for me is as close as anything primal can get. I recall singing along with this hymn during mass either in english or tagalog under different arrangements through the years. But I hardly recall the verses nor the melody, nor have I heard it sung during a mass for the past sooo many years. Yet, tears were welling up my eyes as I listen to you sang. Thank you for letting me dip into the vast ocean of my catholic upbringing, truly a fortress of peace in times of trouble.

  • The version I know is written in the third person (i.e. 'His' instead of 'Your').

  • This is one of my favorite hymns. Wish we sang it here in Florida. Thanks so much for posting it on you tube!

  • Absolutely beautiful! This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and you sing it so well.
