  • how to damp the bell?

  • Bells are not damped normally on a bell tree. Like a carillon, they continue to ring until the sound dies away naturally.  Barbara Brocker, who arranged this piece and who has given me some instruction in bell trees, tells us that when using the softer mallets you can touch the casting of a bell that you don't want sounding any more with the soft head of the mallet to damp it.
