REDFISH ACTION CALAVERAS LAKE TEXAS

We arrived about 6:40 am +/- and on our first casts landed keeper redfish so, I took out my video camera to get some of the action. My Dad and his friend Tom (Tom had been there since 3am) told me to quit the BULLCR@P and get to fishing... I'm glad I didn't listen. If anyone is interested in a copy of the full video on DVD, Let me know. I'm still in the editing process to shorten the few casts that didn't land fish or some of the other fishermens BS or crossing in front of my camera. But if you watch the background while I'm on camera you see constant redfish being caught. Not to mention if you listen to the action off camera. It's exciting to watch if you're a fisherman or want to be one. Like the video says... Do a search for "manuel z" or "manuel z fishing" don't add www's or dot coms.... JUST MANUEL Z. @kane601 Calaveras Lake texas if you launch at the dock straight out passed the consession stand and head out about a quarter mile you'll see the wall (Called the Crappie Wall) but I've never seen anyone catch Crappie there.

Im new to lake calaveras and i am only use to catching saltwater reds... What do these freshwater reds eat? what are the best baits for them? what is the best time of year? are there any real good spots to fish for them on the lake?

@tominator006 Since crabs aren't available you can catch them with crawfish. I've even used the cooked crawfish from HEB that has the spices on it and caught the Reds. They will also hit Silver/Blueback RAT-L-TRAPS. Large white Bucktail jigs (I MEAN LARGE!) small live perch and tilapia.

my buddies and I caught over 75-80 reds off the shore that same day...july 20th 2004...there were 6-8 of us shoulder to shoulder catching reds left and right...we waded out to chest deep water using rattle traps...my cousin and I got there at 6 am..we limited out by 6:30..I got on the phone and called every fisherman I knew...lol..I alone caught over 15 reds that day..kept the 3 biggest ones

you need a boat to get to just about everypart of those two lakes. They are fishing on the fresh water intake to the power plant.
