I love Kirsty MacColl. There was at the same time a sweetness and a biting wit to her songs. Her vocal harmonies are legendary. I found it difficult to choose between this one and He's On The Beach, which I love just as much. "A New England" was written by Billy Bragg and features gems such as "I was 21 years when I wrote this song / I'm 22 now but I won't be for long" and "I put you on a pedestal / you put me on the pill". The track was produced, beautifully, by Steve Lillywhite, whom she married that year. Steve and Kirsty worked with ABBA's Frida on her Shine album and Kirsty also wrote a couple of songs for Tracy Ullman and sang her famous backing vocals on them. She is sadly missed.
very good song when i first heard it been played by billy bragg thoses long years ago .shame about her dying so young.

I love this song either by Billy or Kirsty, or even better the live version they did together, but I hate this!

I remember I bought this 12" before. Really a good song, good production. So sweet the voice of Kirsty, and so well written originally by Billy Bragg ...

What a shame that such a talent is no longer with us. And what a shit justice system in Mexico. The billionaire owner, and probably the driver of , the boat that hit her in a 'no boat zone' should have paid the price. Getting a 'hand' to take the rapp shows he's a real shithouse. Will never go to Mexico again, and fcuk their football team.
