to carve the f hole first you use a fret saw with FINE blade and then a chip carving knife? is that right or wrong? thanks

That spruce carves like butter after the maple doesn't it? Mahogany is another wood that carves easily, but bow instruments are mainly spruce, maple, and ebony. I have to wonder if you select the location of the F holes and bass bar based upon the tap tone of the top? I do all stringed stuff with guitars being the meat and taters of the work, but also do mando- and viol- arch tops etc. I made a neat project from an old radio magazine to find a cabinet's resonant t frequency(ies), or top/back.
