Yes, the Pirates boat was mechanically unsound, which almost led to it sinking. However, the inexperience of the crew with the boat was evident in the Capetown in-port race.

Looks a fast boat . Wonder if the French will dominate as they do in multihull and short handed racing. I suppose it is a slightly different game.

Getting to know each other as well as the boat is essential to being competitive in the Volvo. Pirates of the Caribbean had only one day on the water before the start of the 2005-2006 race, and had to abort the first leg.
