My musings about what it would require to do away with stigma against prostitution.

  • (con’t) I do agree that reducing poverty could decrease the need for some women to sell sex. However, how do we know if the political theory proposed will really do such a thing? If it’s Marxism you’re suggesting, would it really pan out as we would wish with equality? I’m afraid of making an even more pushed-under-the-carpet black market nonregulated for men to treat women like shit. But again, my areas of expertise are not in feminist issues, that's why I watch your vids so I can learn. :P

I'm opposed to the legalization of prostitution because of the fact that it doesn't reduce violence against prostituted persons, it increases sexual trafficking to areas with legal brothels, it increases the number of people working in prostitution and it becomes viewed as just another job, which it isn't.

I used to advocate the legalization of prostitution but upon doing my own research I found the evidence for it actually benefiting prostitutes to be lacking.

  • @fruitikay

Legalized prostitution also creates a black market, what the johns want in prostitution is sex when and how they want it and if they can't get it legally (like with a teenager or in their car) they'll get it illegally, so you have an even greater black market than it was before.

The user rubbleofempires did some informative vids on this where he goes more in to depth than one can in a comment if you're interested.

  • Ah, these comments are so welcome after having been bombarded with sex positive trash.

  • People who beat on prostitutes wouldn't last a second roaming the streets to be penetrated night after night by strangers for money to survive.

Wow, this is just a perfect example of another pointless ignorant comment. You call my video rhetoric and then post 2 rhetorical comments that are the product of ideology and not fact. Here's the facts for anyone reading:

Legalized prostitution has consistently shown to increase the cases of coerced (thats non-consensual for you fucktards out there) prostitution. No human being should have to have non-consensual sex (rape) & legalized prostitution means more of that.

  • @prschuster In short, outlawing prostitution does nothing to address the economic, moral or gender issues you mention. It only victimizes women more by making them liable to prosecution as criminals. Then the police can no longer be turned to for protection from real abuse. I doubt that you'll find many pro-legalization feminists who would deny that poverty, addiction and misogynist violence play a role. But how do you know that every such act boils down to sexual exploitation?

  • The argument for decriminalizing prostitution is simply that there is no justification for outlawing any consensual act between adults. All this other rhetoric against legalization is irrelevant. If poverty or drug addiction are factors in making women choose to sell sex, then those problems should be addressed separately. If there were no issues of poverty, addiction or sexism, there would still be sex work since some women would still make that choice. It would just be less prevalent.

  • @iremythpurr :P

  • This is just one of the very few things I disagree with you on. But I've already mentioned that before in Stikam. While I recognize the dangers of such work (sex work) I still have a hard time being convinced it should be kept illegal, for, it remains so now, and violence still happens. But I am not against being proven wrong. I'm still in the midst of doing more research on such things because I barely know studies in order to present my case. lol. These are not my areas of expertise. (con't)
