My First Love - A Jemi Story Episode 1 (Remembering you) {Part 2}

I jumped at the sound of my alarm clock. Rubbing my eyes I hit the button to turn it off. My dream hit me suddenly. I cant believe I dreamt of her. I havent in so long. Why does that memory in particular stick most? Oh right, that was our last night together. I shook my head. Why bother reliving the past, it doesnt do any good. It wont change it and thinking about it wont move me forward. I stood up and walked over to my closet. Ugh! Why did I have to dream about her, now I cant get her out of my head. That was 5 years ago. I was 15 and stupid than, now Im a man and have an important job that if Im not paying attention to wont help me getting that promotion. I finished getting ready and got in to my car. I intentionally avoided riding by Mansion Ridge like I do every day even though I have to leave earlier for work. Thats where Demi lived. She was in the highest class our town had, and me? Well I wasnt. My dad worked at a car repair shop and my mom ran a day care center. We only had enough money to pay for the necessary things. Our house was so small I had to share the basement with my brother Kevin who now lives in New York with his wife Danielle. My grades were always high which was the only reason I got to go to college, I got a scholarship. Im now a business man, not my ideal job but it pays the bills and leaves some extra money for some things. But back when I was younger I was considered nothing. Everyone looked up to the people who had money and everyone who had money looked down on all of us except Demi. We were partnered up in 6th grade for a history project. She was so polite to me, not anything like the others. After the project was over she continued to hang out with me, even though I said she didnt have to. I remember that day so perfectly. She came over to my house and we played video games on my bed. I handed the controller to her asking if she wanted a turn. She bit her lip and leaned in and kissed me. I was so surprised. It was my first kiss and it felt magical. We didnt talk about it after that but once we hit high school I asked her to be my girlfriend and she said yes. We dated for 8 months but I knew it was love that we both wanted to last forever. We kept it a secret from our parents because they both wouldnt approve. But that one day, that day Ill regret the rest of my life, our secret was broken. I walked back with her through our path, that led to our secret field. We discovered a huge spot of bare land in the middle of the woods. It was completely open and the perfect spot to just be together where no one could find us. It was almost 8 oclock, time for Demis curfew. We walked through the tree filled path and out to the road when a car pulled up. It was Demis dad. I could only imagine what he was thinking. His little girl coming out of the woods holding hands with a poor boy, with leaves in her hair from the trees. I knew his exact thoughts and let go of her hand, holding mine up. He angrily walked out of the car and over to me. He asked me questions for the next 10 minutes about who I was and what we were doing. I answered honestly. I never did anything along the lines of what he was thinking with Demi, we were to young. He didnt believe me though. He grabbed Demis wrist and pulled her into his car. JOE! She screamed and reached her hand out toward me. Her father shot me a look that scared me to death so I didnt reach my hand out for her. She pressed her head and hands up against the window of the car as her dad started it. I watched her drive away, with tears running down her face. The next day as I walked to school I stood at the bottom of Mansion Ridge where I would usually wait for her to walk to school with her. I squinted my eyes and looked up the hill. I saw a For Sale sign on her front lawn. I looked closer and saw Demi standing in her driveway. She stepped into the limo, crying, than it pulled away. That was the last time I ever saw Demi, the love of my life.
