Hi,
I think you have a male tortoise there. I have a male desert tortoise that did the same thing with other tortoises I have tried to adopt. He obviously thinks your shoe is another tortoise--about the right color, shape, and size. A quick note that usually tortoises are vegetarians--you may want to give him fruit like tomato or melon as an occasional treat to cool his temper. ;)

He's probably just frustrated and angry because you keep calling him a turtle. He's a tortoise and probably feels that his species and identity are being maligned.

We don't "keep" him, he just lives here since before Jackie did. I tried to feed him some tasty beef and some lettuce, but he was not interested, so it seems he's managing to get plenty to eat. Not sure of the gender. I asked, but he wouldn't say. Have not seen any friends, but perhaps the shoe is now his best pal, at least someone to have fun duke-ing it out with. Plus, if you saw the mess he made on one of the flagstones, you would not want to keep him, certainly not let him in the house again

I would advise you watch this on small view, it looks better. Sorry about the video conversion which gives a goony sound to some of the talk. Enjoy it! Please comment.
