Background and title summer school
"Itsy Bitsy Spider Climbing up the Wall" is an English children's song that inspires creativity.
In Bethlehem and Palestine people sometimes ask ourselves whether the Wall disables creativity and arts - whether imprisonment closes up mind and soul. But even if this may be true for some, the Palestinians will never resign to such spiritual defeat, certainly not in educating our children and youth. AEI's summer school is intended to show that the human soul cannot be suppressed by Walls and checkpoints.
Aim and objectives
As its aim, the summer program sets out to enhance the skills, attitudes, and knowledge of Palestinians in learning about and effectively communicating their identity and reality in culturally interesting ways.
With this approach in mind, the summer program has the following concrete objectives:
Strengthening the knowledge of Palestinians about their own cultural identity, and about the diversity of and interaction between cultural and religious identities in the Holy Land (Palestine/Israel).
Developing knowledge and artistic skills among young Palestinians to communicate the Palestinian identity to others.
Raising awareness about new attractive methods of learning.
Strengthening Moslem-Christian living together in Palestine.
