I think it's a shame this and all the other facilities are decaying and empty while people who need help are either living under bridges or in jails.

has not change much...streets...buildings...b
ell tower.. -
Heh, it's so strange to see my future campus like this. It has changed quite a bit.
They sometimes leave the construction areas open, and you can enter the buildings that haven't been renovated. They're so creepy!

all i know is this is some real bullshit. I never remember leaving my room. All i remember is getting druged so the staff can sit on there ass and f#%k all day. And if u say anything they will shot a needel in ur ass then throw in a time out room and for 8 hours made of only brick and one little window with cold steal bars. And thats if they dont forget about u or foget to tell the next shift that ur in there. If that happens ur lucky to get out after 2 days. They treated us kids like shit.

tHIS WAS A BIG STATE HOSPITAL. ALMOST A CITY IN IT''S SELF!
is this place still there?
pennylucychassis 2 years ago
Most of the structures are still there. The grounds now house a CalState University. The 'Children's Program' buildings and all employees residences have been demolished. The 'RT' building partially demolished to house school library. The school discourages their employees from speaking of the hospital and has consistently been oppositional to enquiries about it by the public as well as their own students. Unfortunate as (good or bad) it was a significant part of california history.

Wasn't that the court room when they turn the corner onto Camarillo Street (1:53)? I was told they had the court room on hospital grounds so they could hold hearings for matters at the hospital. Instead of transporting the patients to Ventura, the presiding judge would come out to the hospital.

Yes, during final 12 or so years the courtroom was exactly in that corner building. I think the RT bldg was used pror to that. You're right also about that allowing for the patients not to have to be transported to a county court. As you can With the large numbers of patients on various legal holds transportation would have been a nightmare and dangerous. Also, the vast majority of patients in the mentally ill side of Cam were from LA County making it still more difficult.

ROFL 2:24- ever hear of a "Jewish chapel"?
copacetic79 3 years ago
Clint misspoke there. Although it has been awhile, as I recall the 'Chapel' building had seperated areas for Jewish vs Christian/Catholic services. For patients who, for one reason or another, couldn't leave the unit(ward) a church leader would go to the unit to visit the patient individually. Most of these representatives came from nearby community places of worship. Depending on the faith it could be a Priest, Rabbi, Pastor, etc.
