Carroll Shelby was contacted by Roots motors the Builder of he Sunbeam Alpine to see if Shelby American could work their cobra magic and replace the Sunbeam Alpine1.7 liter four cylinder engine and replaced it with a small block 4.2 liter Ford V-8, similar to the way he transformed the AC. This was a desperate measure as roots was in trouble and shortly after the production of Tigers began Chrysler bough Roots and needles to say that it rubbed the new masters wrong to have a Ford engine in a Chrysler Corp. car. And try as they may there was no way to fit the Chrysler Corporate small block V8 in the slender width of the sunbeam so after 2 great years for enthusiast the Tiger got killed by Chrysler. Only 7,000 Tigers were made and it is a shame that it felt victim to corporate embarrassment.
