A couple years ago I challenged myself to write a really sad song that sounds happy. As a songwriter I think my favorite songs are lyrically morose but musically upbeat - like the traditional "You are my Sunshine" or Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark." For my challenge, I came up with a dance song about an widower with Alzheimer's disease. This is probably my favorite song that I have written. I don't know why it took me so long to record it and upload it to youtube.
I even included subtitles in the recording to make it easier on your listening and viewing experience... plus if youtube lasts another 40 or 50 years I'll probably need to closed captioning myself.
(For another song about Alzheimer's disease check out Sacramento Singer-songwriter Christian Kiefer's song "Such a Marvelous Dream" about Ronald Reagan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjUqvX3GoeU )
