...that is a Rolls Royce Nimbus jet engine. This originally powered a Westland Wasp Helicopter. This is a test run before the engine was converted to a turbojet. Very Loud!!!

  • The Nimbus normally sounds like that and we usually can tell if its going to have any problems by keeping an eye on the RPM gauge. In this case this was a normal run up to its idling speed. Thanks for the comment.

  • Aeronautical engineering companies that deal with ex-military stuff. There are still a few Nimbus's knocking around, they also come up on E-Bay from time to time. Expect to pay between £1000 and £5000 depending on age/condition; if it's airworthy then they usually cost much more.

  • Sounds like it's overspeeding, I would be carefull, attach a containment shield to that mini test stand. Hey, go all the way attach a water pump to it for some governing action...

  • In a word... excellent.

  • where would you purchase such an engine, and how much would it set on off?
