I disagree with some points you make. Most prominently you say that the game is made and played to beat scores. While it is an aspect it is most certainly not the only reason to play nor what the played should have in mind the entire time. The game, like you did say, it is beautiful and nice to admire. Along with that the gameplay is fantastic, smooth, and overall fun. I'm sure you would have more enjoyment in the genre if the score wasn't always on mind when playing.

Wow, I had no idea Dustforce was originally made in Gamemaker. People really don't give that engine enough credit, it's much more powerful than it seems... Well for 2D games at least, it can do just about anything.
