The contractor who suggested that this be Torn Down- ---Should have his Contractor lisence Revocked by the City The County & the state of Alabama-
Can You believe?
An actual building contractor suggesting he be responsible for demolishing a land mark which was given to him to "RESTORE" ????
This is simply INSANITY -
Let alone that it was a F.L.W. ...
MY GOD ALMIGHTY
I will drive to Florence find the SOB

@ArtisanTony I am a contractor and build homes for a living. I have studied Wrights plans and designs.
I agree that his designs were "unconventional" and hard for builders to stick to his plans 100%. Frank had to play babysitter just to make sure his plans were not shortcuted and compromised. His roofs and flashing for the roofs were a particular problem for the builders. Franks houses would not have any problems if the builders stuck to his plans, problem was.....they hardly did.

AMAZING HOUSE! really a gem!

@MrSueVeneer The way it was designed it needed to be torn down. Wood structure and veneer touching earth does not work. Wright is over rated as a residential architect.

@ArtisanTony Have you seen my video on this house? I have studied this home. I have been building for 30 years and have 10 years of experience in architecture. You give him way too much credit. He designed homes to connect with the earth. That is cute but if you have personally seen the rot from his designs you would think differently. Just this home alone underwent major renovations just to keep it from being demolished. The problems were design issues pure and simple.

Great place to see. If you're going to visit be sure to get a sandwich at Bunyan's BBQ nearby. Mmmmm.

@rentatrip1 LOL, Frank new a lot about architecture but very little about keeping wood from rotting. If you new how much it took to fix Wright's homes, i.e. Falling Water and others, you would understand where the contractor was coming from. I agree that the home should have never been considered for demolition. But the fact is some of Wright's building were demolished due to the way they were built. Some were never built due to these types of problems being forecasted.

The contractor wanted to tear it down, Alabama contractor, Scary, the world is full of idiots.
It's worth the trip. The rooms are a little smaller than we'd like today but the design is still contemporary and very livable. He was a visionary. I'm so glad the locals banded together to preserve this house.
