Rover 25 1st Start -- Idleing waiting to warm up inside and general checks (2 of 4)

After spending 13 hours on this 2000 Rover 25 1.6 (Head gasket) It was finally time to start.....

Running on fresh oil (only a small amount to flush the remainder of the old oil through)


A little about us.

My step dad and me are in to "tinkering" on cars. So, having helped a friend on theirs and having never been "technically" getting the jobs done to 100% satisfaction, we decided to "go-it-alone" and aquire a VERY cheap Rover 25 (2000 X reg).

We stripped the car down and removed the head. We sent the head to be machined at a friends workshop (he took off 4 thou) and while he head was away, we then set about replacing the waterpump and thermostat. (Water pump had failed) as we were finishing I took a call to tell me the cylinder head was en-route back from being machined. We then decided that now was a good time to get the water ways cleaned and flushed through and made sure that all sludge (there was hardly any oil in the water) was out of the system.

Having already drained off the Mayo-oil we weer ready to er assemble.

Well, the results speak for them selves!!!!

I would say that this K-series engine is perfect for anyone wanting to learn about mechanics. We are not mechanics and used a basic Halfords Pro tool set.

What we used:-

Halfords Pro Tool set (£100)
Trolly Jack for when drivers front wheel comes off
Head Gasket (MLS) set
Head bolts
Oil filters (we used two for flusing old oil)
Oil
Water
anti freeze!
