  • I'm a big fan of Plancon (being a bass myself, I suppose that goes without saying). With respect to his legato, it is worth pointing out that he uses more portamento that is nowadays regarded as quite "correct" in order to achieve it. But this was the recommended style of his generation and before, and probably singers of today ought to give it more consideration when singing music from the nineteenth century. Note also the stylish, perfectly clear cadenza.

Great artist... splendid performance... terrific recording... THANK YOU!

  • An amazing "legato" exhibition! Truly wonderful!

  • Plancon is simply the greatest basso who ever recorded. I also greatly admire Chaliapin's performance of this aria as well as Navarini's. Thank you for posting!

  • O.K. I just heard the low note at the end. Thanks for

    submitting!

  • Tauberfanlehar: is this a bass as described?

    Wondeful record in any event.

  • Great posting. YT.
