  • wow. i thought SC last analog synth was the Prophet 600. Looks like the Split Eight didnt get much love - the DX Yamaha synth popularity buried nearly all of the analog synths released in 1985 and onwards, in terms of sales and marketing. A shame, considering this synth buries the Yamaha DX series in sound quality.

  • @dexfx69 The Yamaha DX serie's are good synths too, but I really love analog synths. The Split 8 needs to be known by more people, it's a great synth !

    Thank you

  • I had one of these synths about 25 years ago. It would never stay in tune for me. Either the entire synth would detune or just individual notes. It drove me crazy.

  • @jimi18032 Yes Sometimes it did, but I've changed the AC power and now it's ok...

  • Can the Split Eight use all of is oscillators together in unison so you can play it monophonic, or can it go monophonic using less oscillators? Great demo by the way!

  • @scarabmasta Hello, it can play mono with All 8 voices for only one key.

But it can play mono with 4+4 VCO... 4 Dual VCO layered keys.

    good good sound

  • I have one of this that I purchased in 1988 for US$250 at Thoroughbred Music in Tampa. It's in mint condition except from a little rusty spot from a battery pack I created to replace the original memory battery. A wonderful keyboard I will not sell ever.

  • @alphajuno1 Hey thanks much man, I've really been interested in restoring one of these that a relative of mine gave to me, but I really didn't want to unless I knew it would play monophonic. So you really helped me out. Thanks a ton and keep up the awesome synth videos!

  • @TheeMilford Hello, the layers sound are when you can see the lightened led from the top; for exemple at 2,09 the led shut down = single VCO.
