My grandma cut out the newspaper article and showed it to me, it said it was suicide. I'm not saying it's right but that's what was reported in the newspapers at the time.

George was about to be married to a beautiful lady (Lemmon), and was getting a nice raise for a renewal of his Superman series. There is no way he committed suicide! Get a clue! His jilted lover Toni Mannix paid for so much of his stuff, and was jealous he was getting married and putting Lenore in his will instead of Toni. When George died Toni got everything from his will. Toni probably told Ed Mannix George was just a gay friend, or something. Ed got suspicious when George engaged Lenore.
