Rare video from the Diamond P archives from the 1978 Sportsnationals. Featuring Pro Comp, Comp, Modified, Super Stock and Stock. Announcing team includes Dave McClelland and Steve Evans.
back in 1978 it could have been TNN as they covered Motorsports all day on the weekends, it was known as "American Sports Calvacade" and "Diamond P" was the production company as they carried all the NHRA event before ESPN took over.
@LMCMInterloper I'm wondering, too. This couldn't have been on ESPN, because ESPN wasn't launched until late 1979. Cable TV was in it's infancy in 1978, as many of today's popular cable TV channels weren't even around.
I didn't think any drag racing events were televised back in '78. This is a nice find, and thanks to diamondpvideo for the upload.

I just love the way Dave McClelland says "DRAG RACING". Makes it sound exciting, dirty and grungy all at once. :-D

Was this on Cable back then? Or was this on Syndicated TV, i.e. Mislou and SETN?
