Interview Film in English by Jon Welch & Son Nguyen (ca. 105 Minutes; Download Only - ca. 1.1 GB). Available in the Online Store at www.jonwelchmusic.com.

Michael Davis is one of the most prominent freelance trombonists in New York City, active in commercial recording, Broadway shows and top-scale concert and session work. He also tours regularly with the Rolling Stones and is an accomplshed Jazz soloist. His publishing company and record label, Hip-BoneMusic, features his work as a composer, arranger, producer and music educator. His excellent brass recordings range from the Absolute Trombone series, fabulous trombone CDs featuring international industry heavyweights such as Slide Hampton, Bill Watrous, David Taylor, John Fedchock, Jim Pugh and Mark Nightingale (just to name a few) and his intimate collaborations with bass trombonist extraordinaire Bill Reichenbach (Bonetown and New Brass) to Brass Nation (which features 55 of the world's finest brass players) and Trumpets Eleven including performances by Randy Brecker, Phil Smith, Chris Botti, Ryan Kisor, Bobby Shew, Tom Harrell and Chuck Findley, among others. This is cutting-edge brass music at its best and Michael shines as a writer and producer! Of course all the music found on the CDs (and more!) is available for purchase in sheet music form at Hip-BoneMusic so you can try out these modern masterpieces yourself! Michael also creates products that cater to developing players. His warm-up and etude books are favorites in the educational sector and always include a play-along CD for a maximum, realistic musical experience. We caught up with Michael at the International Trombone Festival in Aarhus, Denmark in June of 2009 and he was kind enough to share his varied and rich life with us: what it's really like freelancing in New York, touring with the Stones, running his own publishing business, guest conducting throughout the US as well as covering his earler experiences performing with Buddy Rich, Paul Anka and Frank Sinatra. He has also performed and recorded with the Yellowjackets, Bob Mintzer, David Sanborn, Steve Gadd and the Brecker Brothers. Michael is a visionary when it comes to placing the trombone and trumpet into modern, contemporary musical settings and then he also handles the public presentation and business side as well! Whew! For all you budding, brass-playing entrepreneurs - there's a lot of information for you in this film as Michael characterizes the streamlined nature of the Rolling Stones as a business venture, gleaning what he can to incorporate into his own company. Of course the film is peppered with clips of Michael teaching and performing his own music at the ITF in Aarhus, either in a duo with Mark Nightingale (a la Bonetown and New Brass) or in an ITF Absolute Trombone Ensemble featuring such players as Jiggs Whigham, Mark Nightingale, Alex Isles, Bill Reichenbach, Steen Hansen, Vincent Nilsson and Brandt Attema: A true trombone party par excellence and not to be missed!
