Police have ruled out the possibility missing Christchurch teenager Marie Davis is a runaway but will not say why they are so sure it's foul play.

A jetboat and the dive squad have been brought in to search the Waimakariri River after ground teams found nothing on the riverbanks.




The 15-year-old disappeared 10 days ago and police say they are dealing with either an abduction, kidnapping or homicide.




Police are appealing for sightings of suspicious activity in the Northcote and Waimakariri River area on Saturday April 5 or the next day.

Davis was last seen being dropped off by a friend's mother at her home in Papanui early on the night of April 5.

Inquiry head, detective senior sergeant Virginia Le Bas says police think Davis may have left her house again that night.

Auckland case

Meanwhile, Auckland police are appealing to the public for any sightings of a missing teenager in the city's west.

Aria Bailey Dehar was last seen by her mother over a week ago.
