Lockheed Constellation Arrives at Greenwood Lake Airport

This video comes from the original super 8 film taken in 1977. The original belongs to Phil Preston, not sure if his father or he filmed it. At the time, I believe the runway was 2700 feet and the plane was stripped of contents before leaving Stewart Airport.

More information about the plane can be Found At Link Below ...

  • I remember that plane flying in over our house to the airport. I thought at the time no way he would land that plane at the airport. Pretty cool all these years later I get to see it here. I know Phil and never knew he had flimed the landing. Phil is also a Pilot.

  • My dad and I were there, he was an avid pilot for many years. A bit of trivia. Anyone know who designed and built this plane????? Howard Hughes!!

  • @SketchUp707 it is

  • This looks a lot like the L-049 that resides at Greenwood Lake at the present day.

  • thanks for the video. it's sad to see this plane a derelict nowadays, knowing and now seeing that it flew once.

  • Very nice!! I skydived out of a Connie back in the late 90's. What a cool plane!!

  • I had heard that the crew made two practice approaches until the pilot had it nailed down to land as close to the beginning of the runway and at the prescribed threshold speed. I flew the 1049 and 1649 series but I would think the V-ref speed for an 049 model, as this is, is about 90 knots when empty. I still enjoy visiting the old Connie once a year, sitting in the cockpit and pretending to be flying it once more.

  • There was a good air show over memorial day weekend here.

  • what an amazing archive!! A real piece of aviation history. Thanks for the chance to see it.

  • thank you for posting. I always wondered what it was like when that plane landed there at 4n1. this is whare i learned to fly. . and ive enjoyed seeing this video
