How to make a cheap and very easy laser diode driver from parts found at any electronics store. This video is about the most simple it gets, you can add extra parts for more features if you want later. For a detailed tutorial on building this driver with extra features, go here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/diy-homemade-laser-diode-driver-26339.html

RadioShack Parts list:
LM317: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062601
resistors vary on what you need, resistor kit: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062304&CAWELAID=10...

Parts can be bought off the internet for dirt cheap, for the prices I paid for my components, I paid 40¢.

  • After all I got all the parts and now have another question: why "$3 driver" is on title?

    LM317 - 47¢

    Resistor - 4¢

    Cap - 4¢

    Total - 55¢, nowhere near $3.

  • @nrz666 I say in the description that the driver cost me 40¢. The $3 figure is for buying the parts at RadioShack which I figure most of my viewers would do.

  • @nrz666 Use with 3 AA batteries will receive 3.6

  • @styropyro Thanks for the explanation, in the country I live in no one even knows of RadioShack. We've got "Radio House", "Radar" and a big radiomarket far away. :D

Anyway, will 4.5V supply suit the build or is it necessary to power it from 9V?

  • @stypopyro Hi, got a question. I want to power my build from 3 AAA batts. So it's 4.5 volts. Diode consumes 3 volts. Another option is to power it from 9V battery. Will LM317suit the build with 4.5 V (as its nominal voltage is 1.25 V) or is it obligatory to choose another option?

  • can you show me the easiest way to create a laser with the least amount as parts needed i want to do this but dont want to buy parts from anywhere other than ebay LIKE IF YOU AGREE
