St. Francis means: live as Jesus did. Jesus is the Gospel; Jesus is the NEWS. And when necessary, use words. Although, most of Voddie's sermons are wonderful, this one he is dead wrong on. We live as Christ did. The Gospel is the news about Christ, and his apostles living as he did, and teaching as he did. Therefore we live as he did, and teach as he did; and when necessary, we use words. St. Francis clearly said this to illustrate how a man of Christ should live through his actions.

I'm supposed to give a message (if you will) on Living the Gospel this friday to the Juniors in my church. While I do not agree with this at all, I can at least use this as a stepping stone to teach them how to respond to such things. Thank you

Apparently he does not understand what it means to live the Gospel. We don't mean to live what Jesus did or anything of that sort, but rather that our lives represent our knowledge of Jesus and His teachings. You can live the news, if the news is depressing then your life is depressing. You live through the emotions of the news. But since I know the Good News of Jesus and His love, I live my life with hope and faith and I become a representation of Christ in this world

Sadly, it isn't about "splitting hairs" at all.

And it is quite substantive and critical to remind believers of these clear-cut biblical distinctions (because central to informing the faith of the obedient believer is: the Gospel). Voddie's not straining a gnat, he's exegeting what it means to "preach the Gospel", and also by implication, what it does not mean.

Please do try to show grace when examining what a person is saying. It may not always sound palatable: but as far as this, it's truth.

I agree, But if we live without words coming out of our mouths to openly share the love of the father.

people would say, that guy, or gal, lives a really special good life, and I love being around them, I sure wish I knew what makes what makes them so different, I wish they tell me more.

We must proclaim the gospel as well as living it out.

    Peace my brother!

What people mean by living out the Gospel is sacrificial love for others and representing Jesus to others. Hopefully that life of love will give us opportunities to share the Gospel with others. I love Voddie but I do think he is splitting hairs here.

Why does this sound so much like hair splitting and the sort of thing that the pharisees would indulge, straining at a knate while swallowing a camel. I see that there is a lot of pharaseeism in all of us some more than others. Parisees always have to find some clever way to make self promonient by hair splitting. I am sure that there are far more substantive issues (false doctrine) among Christians and the SBC members than this. This sounds more about pride that about truth. And I admire VB.
