Villa Ta' Kaċċatura
The Roman country house known as Ta' Kaċċatura is situated on a ridge of land flanked by two valleys: Wied Dalam and Wied Ħas-Saptan. It dates back to the second century b.c. and is one of the lesser known Roman sites in the Maltese Islands. The remains of presses, channels and rock-cut storage pits suggest that the villa was used for olive pressing. A large underground rock-cut water cistern lies on higher ground to the southwest of the villa. It is roofed with stone slabs supported on twelve stone columns. Some of the roof slabs have now collapsed. A rock-cut staircase leads into the cistern. The villa lies across the valley from the cave of Għar Dalam, where important prehistoric remains and extinct animal bones have been discovered.

Thanks for the video... I grew up in the area and this was one of my favorite places. Do you know there is a small Roman hypogeum closeby and a Punic tomb?

Prosit, I never imagined there would be Roman remains in the Birzebbuga area.
