Back in the '50s and '60s, it was common for tobacco giants like Pall Mall and Winston to sponsor prime time television shows, even cartoons. Here,we see Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble in an early episode of The Flintstones paying tribute to their sponsor, Winston Cigarettes. Winston tastes good like a cigarette should!

Fred and Barney were always shown smokin' cigars whenever they scammed their way into some ritzy club, got a promotion, a baby was born, etc....lots of smokin' in the Flintstones. Not to mention in the The Jetsons, Mr. Spacely always had a cigar burning, and Rosie the robot put it out on his head the first episode she appeared!!!

You've got a point there. It's funny old cartoons with cigarettes (esp. those doing commercials) attract more attention than the cigars. I think I always just saw the cigars in old cartoons as more of a humorous prop that defined the character. Cigarettes served the same purpose with Andy Capp. He always had one dangling from his lips!

I like how they say specially processed for a rich flavour. I mean we now know that those special processes were the addition of immensely harmful, unnecessary chemicals. I love this commercial, it really shows the values of the time, or at least the portrayed values.
