Greece

Starting from Athens Acropolis where the Parthenon is the symbol of the magnificent Greek civilization, the cradle of the western civilization, we hoped a ferry overnight to Chios, the island famous for mastic production, birth place for Homer, to see the picturesque villages of Pyrgi and Mesta and the 15th century monastery of Nea Moni, to the secluded island of Inouss, the only place where we could say that we were the only tourist on any island, to Samos, the place where, for sure, Pythagoras and, probably, goddess Herra was born, where you could see magnificent work done during the reign of tyrant Polycrate, to Patmos , small but very picturesque island where St. John the Evangelist was exiled by the Roman emperor Domitian and where, living in a cave, he wrote the Book of the Apocalypse, to Bodrum in Turkey, the legendary city of Halicarnasse, which hosted one of the seven wonders of the world, to the splendid island of Rhodes, with its beautiful cities filled with impressive castles. Our intention to continue in the Cyclades was thwarted by the lack of connections so we flew back to Athens and we drove from there to Meteora, where mysterious monasteries are, like, hanging in the sky and to Metsovo, deep in the Pind Mountains, a place where a population, speaking a Romanian dialect, lives and preserves ancestral traditions.
